As a result, tactical officers would constantly report on shield strength during combat, usually as a percentage of total effectiveness, with 100% indicating that the shields were fully operational and lower percentage scores indicating weaker shield conditions. Shield capacities varied depending on a variety of factors, ranging from available power to environmental concerns, making definitive and universal calculations of how much damage they could withstand difficult to estimate.
